The athletic stadium under construction at Oconto Falls High School will be named ST Paper Stadium, in recognition of the paper mill’s $100,000 donation to the project.
ST Paper announced the financial gift in February, and the Oconto Falls School Board approved the stadium’s name earlier this month.
Superintendent Dave Polashek said the gift is a great example of ST Paper’s community involvement.
“They didn’t do it with the intention or request of having any type of naming rights with it, but we thought that it would be a nice tribute to them,” he said.
“We’re excited to see the stadium go up, regardless of whether it would have our name on it or not,” said Sahil Tak, vice president of ST Paper.
He said ST Paper Stadium will be a source of pride for the company’s employees and their families.
“We’re part of the community, we were helped by the community; therefore, we want to give back as well,” he said.
The funds will be used for enhancements to the stadium, including a more elaborate scoreboard and entrance to the facility and a larger combination press box/restroom/concession area. Voters in August approved a referendum that included $1.2 million for a football field and track, and work at the site began last fall.
“It’s going ahead very well,” Polashek said of the stadium work.
Bleachers were installed last week, and designs are being evaluated for the stadium’s main entrance on Farm Road and additional parking at the district office.
