Defensive end Arron Mosby was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers in 2022. He was waived by the Panthers in August 2023.
Just days later, he was claimed off waivers by Green Bay. Released at the end of August, he was re-signed to the Packers’ practice squad the next day.
Mosby signed a reserve/future contract with Green Bay on Jan. 22, 2024.
How did you find out about the Preston Smith trade?
Through social media, like everybody else. You know, devastating. Big role, big guy — a part of this team. A captain, a leader, a brother, teammate. So just losing him, like the environment of the team, we going to lose. And like I said, he was a captain and leader of our team. But going forward, we just gotta find that role and just keep doing it.
Does the locker room dynamic change without Smith’s veteran leadership on a young team?
I think we got a couple more good guys on this team like … Kenny Clark, RG (Rashan Gary), a couple of other guys, Jordan Love — that’s veterans around here. X, Josh Jacobs, guys that have been around here. I feel like the leadership role, if anything, it gets better just by other guys gotta step up and things like that going forward. Like I said, losing a leadership like P, the old guy in the room, it’s going to hurt but gotta keep going.
Where have you seen growth in your game?
Really just speed. Really invested in my speed, believing in my speed, going forward, like I said, with RG and them guys that I’ve been a part of. You got JJ (Enagbare), Lukas Van Ness, those guys, just going on with them and them telling me: Believe in my speed. So really just believing in it going forward. Like I said, that last preseason game, it kind of showed a little bit and then now just going forward and I had the little sack against the Detroit Lions. Really just going forward, believing in my speed, believing in my strength and let the rest be the rest.
Importance of sack for confidence?
Really just going out there, like I said. It was kind of not planned; they just threw me out there. So it was kind of a shocker to me, and then too, actually things went forward for me in a great way. So just going forward, it was a blessing. So now, just like the confidence-wise that I can do it in this league. I did it on one of the greater tackles in the league, so like I said, it’s a confidence booster but from here. You gotta do it again in this league. It could be an accident; you just never know. So going forward, I gotta prove it over and over again.
How do things change with more snaps coming your way?
It’s a couple more guys, we all going to play a role, everyone’s getting more rotations. You got Lukas Van Ness, JJ Enagbare, Brenton Cox, he played a good role as well. All of us just playing together. We also got Rashan Gary too, the leader of our group, so everyone just together, playing as a team. I feel like now you don’t expect who’s going to get most of the credit or whatever you should say.
I feel like everyone just having that role, more younger guys, more bodies, more faster, more speed like that. Just going in and playing together, everyone should play a greater role.
How can the defensive line improve in the second half?
I would just say be more vocal now, because we lost a leadership guy in our room. So just going forward with those guys like JJ and Lukas. They had most of the reps since last year and this year, so me and Brenton Cox trying to find that role, trying to fit in with those guys, trying to learn from them and just communicate as much as possible so we all can be as one and attack the quarterback.
Did you know Smith wanted a trade?
Nah. That’s above my pay grade. I just come in and he sat next to me in meeting rooms. He talked to me like a brother every day, and he was coaching me up because he was the older head in the room. So me actually seeing that news was a shocker. But like I said, that ain’t got nothing to do with me, that’s above my pay grade. Just going forward I hope him the best and we just going to keep going.
First thoughts when you found out?
Like I said, the veteran guy in the room. The jokester in the room. Like I said, he’s the old head. Just going forward we going to miss that piece in the room, because it might be a little different.
Message to defensive line before bye week?
Just stay focused, stay locked in, it’s a bye week, but it’s not offseason. You still got the rest of the second half. So really just try to get your body healthy, find things that you can improve on going forward. We’re in a good spot but gotta keep climbing and we gotta win that NFC North. So really just stay focused, stay locked in, take time off and then just go forward from there.
