Milan Henry Kersten

Milan Henry Kersten, 83, of Wittenberg, died on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston. He was born on Feb. 24, 1931, in the town of Wittenberg, the son of the late Henry and Anna (Harke) Kersten. Milan was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was a member of the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post 502 for more than 50 years. On Oct. 1, 1955, Milan was united in marriage to Vian Long in Wittenberg. She survives. Milan worked at the former Morning Glory Farms of Wittenberg for 43 years, retiring in 1993. He was a volunteer fireman for the Wittenberg Fire Department for many years, retiring in 1991. He was also a member of the Wittenberg Fish and Game Club, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Milan was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church Wittenberg and loved people and having fun. He also had the honor to attend the Never Forgotten Honor Flight on Oct. 22, 2012. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Vian, Wittenberg; two sons, Tom (Karen) Kersten, Eland, and Tim (Dawn) Kersten, Marshfield; four grandchildren, Brian (Lindsey) Kersten, Mosinee, Stephanie (Mike) Maciejewski, Pulaski, and Kyle and Travis Kersten, Marshfield; four great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Emilie Maciejewski and August and Archer Kersten. Milan’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him. Milan was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Allen and Rolland; and two sisters, Ardell Lex and Vernetta Kersten. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Amy Meyer will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg, with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
