Michael “Mike” R. McCormick, 52, Oconto Falls, died suddenly of apparent natural causes on Monday, May 4, 2015, while at work.
He was born May 12, 1962, in Germany to Richard “Chuck” and Judith (Zawada) McCormick. As an infant, he moved with his family to Niagara, where he attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1980.
Following graduation Mike went to work for a furniture manufacturer in Iron Mountain, Michigan, before getting a job at the paper mill back in Niagara. When the paper mill closed, Mike went back to vocational school and obtained diplomas in both power and electrical occupations to continue his efforts of working hard.
On July 14, 2001, he married Manette Barsness-Erwin. The couple made their home in Oconto Falls the past 13 years, and Mike has worked at Sanimax in Green Bay.
Mike enjoyed fishing and fixing things, especially automotive repair, because he was so mechanically inclined. Mike was a member of Hillside Assembly of God Church in Gillett, where he shared his audio/visual talents with other members. Because of severe back and leg pain which resulted in numerous surgeries and his thyroid disease, Mike’s health declined over the past few years.
Survivors are his wife, Manette McCormick, Oconto Falls; their 13-year-old son, Colter, at home; two stepsons, Sawyer and Skylar Erwin, Florence; his father, Richard “Chuck” (Judy Ehmer) McCormick, Pembine; his mother, Judith Colavecchi, Niagara; one brother, Steven McCormick, Niagara; his in-laws, Max and Mary Ann Barsness, Osakis, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Marilee (Tommy) Hutton, Victoria, Minnesota; two nephews, Maxon and Ryder Hutton; aunts, uncles, cousins and a special canine companion who brought Mike so much joy and comfort, Candy.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and great-grandparents.
Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015, at Hillside Assembly of God Church, 5890 State Highway 22, Gillett. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Monday at the church with Pastor Paul Carlson officiating. Burial took place in the Town of Morgan Cemetery.
