Michael B. Cook

Michael B. “Mike” Cook Sr., 72, of Keshena, passed away at his home Tuesday, March 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Michael was born May 7, 1942, in Keshena, a son of the late Marie (Ahakonosay) and Albert Cook. He attended the St. Joseph Grade School, Milwaukee Boys Technical School and Sturgeon Bay Schools. Following school he entered the United States Marine Corps. Mike served his country from December 1960 until 1964, being stationed in Vietnam. On Dec. 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Kay Rabideaux at All Saints Parish in Denmark. Upon returning from service, the couple lived in Sheboygan from 1964-1984. Mike managed the Richards Bowling Alley in Sheboygan Falls. The couple returned to Keshena in 1984. Mike then worked at the Tribal Police Department, officially retiring in 1991. Mike was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. He was also a member of the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. He often snuck off to the casino late at night. He was the only babysitter his grandbabies ever knew. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Kay, of Keshena; his children, Michael B. Cook Jr., of Keshena, Ronald H. Cook, of Bismarck, North Dakota, Kenneth M. (Sheila) Cook, of Freedom, Melissa K. Cook, of Keshena, Christopher M. (Misty) Cook, of Gresham, Melinda L. (Pete) Cook, of Shawano, and Tricia M. (Justin) Broshear, of Fishers, Indiana; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beatrice Cook-Messner, of Sheboygan, and Veronica Cook-Phalen, of Sheboygan; one brother, Warren “Buddy” (Anita) Kaquatosh, of Keshena; two stepsisters, Beverly Klemp, of Eagle River, and Mickoleen Kormann, of Sturgeon Bay; one stepbrother, Harold (Darlene) Price, of Shawano; and many special nieces and nephews who loved to go to their Uncle Mike for his words of wisdom. Michael was preceded in death by his son, Steven J. Cook, in 2011, and his brothers, Albert Cook Jr. and William Cook. A funeral Mass for Michael will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. The Rev. David McElroy, O. Praem, will be the celebrant. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. The Veterans of the Menominee Nation and the Mohican Veterans will conduct military honors. Relatives and friends may call at the Cook residence, N306 Pine Meadow Road, Keshena, after 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, until the procession leaves for church Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. A parish wake service will take place on Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Cook residence.
