Paige Wolf of the Bonduel FFA Chapter was named the state winner of the FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE). The Extemporaneous Public Speaking LDE was held at the 97th State Convention of the Wisconsin Association of FFA in Madison. Wolf’s adviser is Mandi McClone.
Also, the Oconto Falls FFA Chapter was named the state winning Agricultural Communications Career Development Event Team. Team members include Natalie Rieth, Jazmine Vandenbogart, Chloe Anastasopoul and Isabell Casper. Their advisers are Walter Taylor and Hallie Rehn.
The top individual was Rieth.
To qualify for the state finals, Wolf and her competitors had to compete in several other contests including district contest, sectional contest and the state semifinals.
The Extemporaneous Public Speaking LDE is designed to allow students to showcase their agricultural knowledge and ability to think on their feet by giving a speech and answering questions with limited prep time.
The State FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking LDE is sponsored at the state level by Wisconsin FFA Convention Partners.
Wolf will represent Wisconsin at the 99th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in November. The national winner will be selected from a group of state finalists and will receive a plaque and additional scholarship money.
Through the Agricultural Communications Career Development Event Team contest, participants work as a team of communication consultants to develop a written media plan, present the plan to a panel of judges and, as individuals, apply what they have learned during practicums, a quiz and editing exercise.
Oconto Falls will also compete at the national convention.
The Agricultural Communications CDE is sponsored at the state level by CNH Capital.
The Agricultural Communications Career Development Events help students prepare for careers in journalism, radio and TV broadcast, web design, marketing and more.
