Lawrence “Larry” Albert, 75, of rural Marion passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah.
Lawrence George Albert was born on Feb. 16, 1939, in Milwaukee to George and Marcella (Plaster) Albert. He went to school in Milwaukee but spent every summer by his grandparents in Marion. Larry was united in marriage on Sept. 16, 1960 to Nancy J. Hoefs at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Wauwatosa. For 17 years, he was employed as a repairman for the telephone company in Milwaukee. He also owned a Boy Blue of America Ice Cream Shop in Mequon for several years. Larry volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader and he played Santa Claus in his early years. In 1979, the couple moved north and settled in Marion. They owned and operated “Larry & Nancy’s Drive-In” on Highway 45 in Marion, until retiring in 1995. Larry also owned the Liquor Store and the 5A Video Store in Marion for some time. Besides the video store in Marion, he also had locations in Tigerton and New London. Driving school bus for the Marion School District was another favorite job of Larry’s, especially when his sons were young, and he was able to drive the team to all the basketball games. Larry enjoyed coaching the boy’s freshman basketball team for several years, serving as scorekeeper, and watching sports on television. He was an avid fan of Kentucky Wildcats basketball, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Green Bay Packer football. Larry started the Penny Carnival at school where kids games raised money for UNISEF. He is a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marion. Larry’s other interests included deer hunting, playing sheepshead, and he loved spending time with family.
My husband had an address change, he’s no longer at the old, his new address is Heaven’s Gate where streets are made of gold. No more waiting for the mailman to bring mail up to his door. He has become a messenger to those who went before. My husband no longer feels the pain, no doctors now to see, for at his new address, his body is set free. Those shaking hands, those eyes so dim are things that now are past, for his new address, his health will always last. His clothing there is different too, a robe so clean and white, and address with an open door, where no one fears the night. So even though he left us, should we be distressed? He really didn’t die, you see, he simply changed his address.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nancy, and four sons, Lance (Ruth) Albert, of Shawano, Kevin (Carla) Albert, of Marion, Kyle (Joanie) Albert, of Marion, and Chad Albert, of Appleton. There are four grandchildren, Matthew Albert, Brandon Albert, Andrew (fiancée Lisa Ellickson) Albert, and Ariana Albert. There is one sister, Sandra (Paul) Manneck of Los Angeles, California; one sister-in-law, Diane DeLang of Reno, Nevada; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Hoefs, of New Mexico, and Brian Kebis of Reno, Nevada. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Deacon Thomas Jozwiak will officiate, and burial will be in the spring at Greenleaf Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call on Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
