Lakewood teen dies after ATV crash

A 15-year-old Lakewood boy was killed Dec. 7 in an all-terrain vehicle accident. The victim was identified in his obituary as Clark L. Lightfoot, a sophomore at Wabeno High School whose family moved to Lakewood from Pulaski last summer. Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban said in a news release that his office’s emergency dispatch center was notified at about 8:17 p.m. that the accident had occurred in the area of the 17000 block of West Wheeler Lake Lane in the Town of Lakewood. Deputies responded to the scene and found an all-terrain vehicle on its side up against several trees in the ditch with damage. The preliminary investigation indicated that Lightfoot was traveling west on a snow-covered and slippery road surface, when the ATV failed to negotiate a curve, left the road and struck several trees in the ditch. Family members and first responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the boy died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. A funeral was held Dec. 13 at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring. Skarban said an ongoing investigation into this ATV accident is being conducted and led by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office. The sheriff’s department also received assistance from the Lakewood/Townsend and Mountain Area ambulance services, Eagle III and the Lakewood, Mountain and Townsend fire departments.
