John A. Hill, 81, Oconto, died early Sunday morning, April 27, 2014, at a Green Bay hospital with his family by his side, following complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born Aug. 3, 1932, in New Hampshire to Charles and Hazel (Crossman) Hill.
While attending high school, John participated in all sports. As a young man, John served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War.
John married Mary Stochowicz, and together they had four sons, John Jr., Robert, Daniel and Paul, and raised them in Somerville, N.J. John was a chemist in the forest products industry, primarily working for Johns-Mansville and Diamond-Shamrock. In 1986 he moved to Wisconsin to work in the paper chemicals industry in Appleton, where he would meet his future wife. In 1989, he married Judy (Coppens) Fanello, and they built a new home on the Oconto River, which they have enjoyed. John will be fondly remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, camp and also enjoyed traveling with Judy in their motor-home all over the United States.
Survivors are his wife, Judy Hill, Oconto; two sons, John Hill Jr., Clinton, N.J., and Dan (Donna) Hill, Celebration, Fla.; three grandchildren, Vanessa (Wayne) Ammons, Orlando, Fla., Daniel Hill, Beijing, China, and Matthew Hill, Celebration, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Marion Coppens, Green Bay; sister-in-law, Jean (Norbert) Wendricks, Green Bay; stepdaughters, Teresa (Kurt) Gott, Coral Springs, Fla., and Marcy (Jose Diaz) Fanello, East Hartford, Conn.; stepgrandchildren, Devon Gott, Niki Diaz and Josh Diaz; great-stepgrandson, Jameson Diaz; nieces and nephews, Susan (Dave) Major, North Haverhill, N.H., David (Trish) Keane, Bangor, Maine, Rick (Carol Ann) Keane, Riverside, Calif., and Jennifer (Geof) Patefield, Green Bay; his adopted family, Ed and Theresa Kippley and sons, Charles and Louis, all of Green Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert and Paul Hill; one sister, Jane Keane; infant brother, Howard Hill,; and father-in-law, Philip Coppens.
Private burial services with military honors will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls. Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the Hill family.
