James Lyman Schulz entered the gates on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, welcomed by Jesus and the angels – all the musicians he’s ever loved who passed before him. He joins in the chorus, smiling and singing and strumming his guitar.
His earth angel parents, Lyman and Leonora Schulz, welcomed him first on Nov. 27, 1934.
A consumer of “Popular Mechanics,” Jimmy learned to master the art of building and repairing guitars. He was a bandmate, a bachelor, a jack-of-all-trades. His greatest gift, some could argue, was his friendship – and it always came with that contagious smile.
He made friends with cashiers, waitresses and auto mechanics, important people in Nashville and hobos on trains. He loved the deer, his cats and his beloved dog, Sally. He turned strangers to friends with handwritten letters and long phone calls.
His home was off the grid but full of warmth. On his kitchen table were always stacks of cards he received from family and friends, acquaintances new and old. No guests of his ever went hungry or left without a wave goodbye.
Jimmy was the kind of person who made sure family and friends were taken care of, giving selflessly of what he had. If you feel inclined, please give to a charity of your choice in honor of his giving spirit.
Jimmy was welcomed to heaven by his sibling angels: sister, Delores (Dale Schoepke) ,and brother, Daniel Schulz. He leaves behind his sister, Naomi (Stephen Dohms); sister-in-law, Pat Schulz; and loads of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We’re honored to have the Rev. Paul Johnson from the Church of the Wilderness officiate at Jimmy’s memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, with visitation at 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will be provided.
