Incumbents seek return to school board

The Gillett School Board will lose a long-serving board member but gain another in the April 7 election, barring a successful write-in campaign. Board President Miles Winkler, who served since 2000, was decided not to run for another three-year term. In an e-mail to the Times Herald, he said the district is headed in the right direction, and the timing is right for him to step down. “I believe that everything is in place for the school district to be successful and meet the needs of our students,” he said. “We have an excellent educational, support and administrative staff that is second to none. “The focus has always been on the best interests of the students, and at the same time, to be mindful of the district taxpayer.” Candidates for the two open positions on the board are Vice President James Karls, who is completing his first three-year term in office, and former School Board member Nanette Mohr, who has 18 years of experience on the board. “I’m just so glad I have another chance,” said Mohr, who lost her bid for re-election in a five-candidate race in 2014. Incumbent John Timm and newcomer Jamie Heroux were elected. “It was just such an important part of my life,” Mohr said. “I’m there for the kids. I want to do what’s best for the kids.” Oconto Falls School District Incumbents Bec Kurzynske and Ken Harter will run for office in the Oconto Falls race, along with challengers Clint Gardebrecht, of Oconto Falls, and Pam Engel, of Abrams. Three people will be elected. Incumbent Charles O’Harrow, who is completing his second term, decided not to run for office. Suring School District Incumbents have filed as candidates for two seats on the Suring School Board. Incumbent Wendy Wozniak filed for the town of Breed area seat, and Dennis Piepkorn, board president, filed for the village of Suring area seat. Electors from the entire school district are eligible to vote for candidates from each of the areas. Lena School District Incumbents also make up the field in Lena, where David McNurlen and Charles Imig are the only candidates for two positions. Oconto School District In Oconto, incumbent John Pinkart is the sole candidate for the city seat, and incumbent Sandy Falk is the sole candidate for the rural seat.
