Losses at subsectional end Hawks’ season
Shawano No. 2 singles player Isabelle Carroll was the only player to escape the first round of the WIAA Division 1 subsectional Monday at Western Racquet and Fitness Club.
Carroll won her first match against Rebecca Messer, of Ashwaubenon, 6-1, 6-1. In the second round, she lost to Green Bay Southwest’s Julia Duane, 6-0, 6-0.
Shawano finished the season 5-5-1 in dual meets.
BOYS SOCCER
Hawks down Denmark
Shawano beat Denmark 3-2 Tuesday to advance in the Bay Conference tournament.
Braxton Surber broke a 2-2 tie with a goal in the 70th minute. Jacob Moesch and Jacob Dickmann also had goals for the Hawks (5-10-1, 5-4 Bay).
Sajen Knueppel had 12 saves tending the Shawano goal.
VOLLEYBALL
Bears beat Amherst in 5 games
Bonduel won the tiebreaker 15-11 after splitting the first four games (25-23, 21-25, 20-25, 25-22) of a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 match against Amherst on Tuesday in Bonduel.
Jen Dowden had 30 digs and 13 kills to lead Bonduel (15-8, 5-2 CWC-8). Hayley Sorenson had four blocks. Lexi Reinke had 11 kills. Miranda Schmidt had 23 assists.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Shawano boys win at Brillion
The Shawano boys placed three runners in the top 10 to take first place Tuesday at the Brillion Invitational.
Austin Lhotka took second with a time of 17:33, Jake Klister was third at 17:44 and Andrew Cardish (18:03) was seventh overall. Chase Lhotka (23, 18:39) and Chandler Fairbairn (30, 19:01) rounded out the times for the Hawks.
The boys had a team score of 65, beating out second-place Hortonville by four points.
The girls team placed fifth with a score of 152, led by Kristy Kurtz (8, 21:43) and Teagan Monfils (9, 21:49).
