Harold F. “Mequon” Cleveland, 53, of Keshena, started his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday evening, Oct. 19, 2014, in Shawano.
Mequon was born on Jan. 11, 1961, in Shawano, a son of the late Harold A. and Lois Mae (Pamanet) Cleveland. He was a graduate of Shawano High School. Following high school, Mequon entered the United States Navy, where he served for 20 years, was honorably discharged and retired. In his retirement he had been employed at Menominee Tribal Enterprises as an electrician. He recently became a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Mequon was an avid Packers fan. He loved to spend time with his family. His hobbies included fishing, riding in the woods and playing at the casino.
He leaves behind two daughters, Catherine Cleveland and Kasey Cleveland, and a son, Josh Cleveland. He is further survived by a brother, Kendal (special friend, Mitch’elle) Cleveland, of Gresham, and six sisters, Angeline Pamanet, of Keshena, Brenda Cleveland-Basina, of Middle Village, Maria (Roderick) Connahvichnah, of Shawano, Kathleen (Steve) Waupekenay, of Neopit, Patricia Cleveland-Cook, of Middle Village, and Michelle Cleveland, of Green Bay; two special nephews, Shannon Madosh and Darwin Pamanet. Mequon is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Mequon was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Shannon; and two uncles, Lawrence and Norman Pamanet.
A funeral Mass for Harold F. “Mequon” Cleveland will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. The Rev. David McElroy, O. Praem, will be the celebrant. Interment, with full military honors conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation, will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Brenda Basina residence, W5158 Basswood, Middle Village, Wednesday and Thursday, until the procession leaves for church at 10:15 Thursday morning. A parish wake service will be conducted on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
