Hallam named Member of the Year

Sharon Hallam, Townsend, has been named the 2015 Wabeno Unit No. 44 American Legion Auxiliary Member of the Year by President Karen Prueter. Hallam’s award will be presented at the annual Legion awards dinner May 11 at the Legion clubhouse. Hallam is a longtime auxiliary member. She has served as Unit No. 44 secretary for five years. She helps with poppy distribution each year and is always willing to help with any of the unit’s activities, whether it be baking or cleaning up after legion events. Selling tickets for the auxiliary fall raffle is one of her favorite things to do, and it is in this role that she has proved indispensable. Hallam’s volunteer activities extend beyond the American Legion Auxiliary. She is an active member of the Lakewood Home Community Education group (homemakers) and was secretary of HCE for many years. She is a Lioness, serving as a board member of the Lakewood Lioness, where she also uses her ability to sell raffle tickets. She is a member of the Christian Women’s Society at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church in Lakewood and serves on the funeral committee responsible for calling people to make and serve food for funerals at the church. She is also a Red Wheeler and a member of the local AARP chapter. Hallam and her husband, Harvey, brought their volunteer spirit with them when they moved “up north” from Milwaukee, where they were active members of the West Allis Moose Lodge. They enjoy their retirement home near Archibald Lake. The couple has two children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
