The Wisconsin Troopers Association has named three Gillett School District students as winners in its annual statewide art and essay contest.
Winners were Bailey Peterson, a first-grade student of Nancy Dake at Gillett Elementary School; Elizabeth Ciancio, a sixth-grade student of Teri Carlson at Gillett Secondary School; and LilyAnne Schroeder, a 10th-grade student of Dake at Gillett Secondary School.
Schroeder received a $125 check and award certificate for her entry, “Simply, Saving Lives.” She is the daughter of Janelle Schroeder.
Ciancio received a $75 check and award certificate for her entry, “Wisconsin Troopers Help Us.” She is the daughter of Michael and Sarah Ciancio.
Peterson received a $50 check and award certificate for her entry, “Drive Safe on the Roads.” She is the daughter of Norm and Jessica Peterson.
The students and their families, teachers and friends were invited to an awards ceremony May 16 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The program featured guest speaker Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent Stephan Fitzgerald.
This year marks the 28th annual statewide art and essay competition sponsored by the association. Through the years the goal of the contest has been to promote positive citizenship on the part of Wisconsin’s students. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate.
This year, entrants were required to incorporate the theme, “Moving Wisconsin Forward by Traveling Safely.”
All winning and honorable mention entries will be available for viewing on the association’s website at www.wisconsintrooper.org. Each year, the association awards $4,250 to contest winners.
