The former Hardee’s building at 782 N. Main St. is being converted into a food manufacturing facility, the former owner of the structure told the Oconto Falls City Council on Oct. 8.
Mike Faucett went before the council with an update for the third consecutive month.
“I’m happy to announce that we got the group together that is making an investment in the property,” Faucett said.
The investors include six individuals and one corporation, and the intent is to form a food manufacturing company, he said.
“The working name for the new company is going to be Edna M’s,” Faucett said. “It’s not going to be a retail location, it’s going to be a lot of private label products of a food nature.”
The group has a lot of work ahead of them to get all the necessary permits from the state as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“They’ve got some great ideas, and they’ve got the funding put together,” Faucett said. “It won’t be a race, it’s going to be a marathon, it’s going to be a startup of a new company.”
Edna M’s intends to use the existing building, he said.
“It’s got coolers in there, freezers, a lot of space in there, it’s cleanable and washable, much of it, and that was a lot of their concern, making sure the space could be utilized for food manufacturing,” Faucett said. “It’s a really good space. They feel like it’s set up really well for a light food manufacturing.”
The goal is to have the corporation up and running by Jan. 1, said Faucett, who acknowledged that he is one of the six investors.
“They’ve got the group, they’ve got the wherewithal, and the company that they’re working with has got a good track record,” he said.
