High-flying adventure and down-to-earth opportunities will be a part of the sixth annual fly-in sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Warbirds of America Badger Squadron 6. Saturday’s event will take place at the headquarters of the Badger Squadron, the Oconto-J. Douglas Bake Municipal Airport in Oconto.
Airplane and helicopter rides will be available for $25 to $35. Making a return engagement this year is the TBM Avenger, a World War II Warbird, offering a flying experience for $250.
Experimental, general aviation and vintage aircraft will be on display, including Warbird aircraft such as Yaks, L-19 Bird Dogs and Beech B-18s.
On a smaller scale, remote controlled aircraft will fly all day and will be featured in a one-hour show at 1:30 p.m.
On land, a World War II encampment will be on display, plus a Show and Shine for car enthusiasts, featuring antique and muscle cars, tractors and everything in between. Approximately 150 vehicles took part in the 2013 Show and Shine.
Vendors, crafters and historical groups will have booths. Food and beverages will be available.
The fly-in is the brainchild of an Oconto Falls husband-and-wife team, James Valentine and Jean Fogelberg, who wanted to bring attention to the airport in Oconto. From its start, the event has drawn a large crowd, 2,000 people at the 2009 debut and an estimated 7,000 last year.
Opening ceremonies are at 11 a.m.
