Elizabeth J. Olson

Elizabeth J. “Bette” Olson, 95, of Oconto Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Bette was born July 15, 1926, in Suring, where she grew up and attended school. She was a beauty apprentice in Suring at the Zuehlke Zill Beauty Shop her senior year of high school in 1944. She earned her cosmetology license and worked there until her marriage to Robert “Bob” Olson on May 20, 1950. After living a short time in Birnamwood and working at a beauty shop in Antigo, Bob and Bette returned to the Suring area to farm. She was a farm wife while raising their four children. Bette was a league bowler for many years, a member of the Maple Valley Homemakers and the Red Hatter’s and also enjoyed exchanges and a glass of wine with her Cookie Girls. She quilted and helped at her church, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a wealth of knowledge for the Suring Historical Society. Bette loved a good rummage sale and was a collector of many treasures. Bette is survived by her children, Jack (Judi) Olson, Jim (Marion) Olson and Diane (Bill) Tisch; daughter-in-law, Susan Olson Krumrei; grandchildren, Jamie (Justin) Neils, Erika (Dale) Schindel, Jeff Olson, Maranda (Eric) Kritzeck, Katie (Jen) Olson, Jesse (Dana) Olson, Erick (Nellie) Olson, Billie (Buck) Tisch and Tristin (Brooke) Tisch; great-grandchildren, Jack, Jacey and June Neils, Brynna and Chase Schindel, Drew, Finley, Hank and Piper Kritzeck, Jared and Laken Kusch and Jax Tisch; good friend Cindy Ludtke and her family. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Greg; grandson, Drew; sisters, Donna Dieck and Janet Holtger; parents, Roy and Florina Dieck; and many others. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Fred Mai officiating. Bette will be interred at Hickory Cemetery beside her husband. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Bette’s family wishes to thank the staff at The Cottage’s at Meadowlands for their excellent care over the past 3 1/2 years, as well as to the seventh floor Unity Hospice team at St. Vincent’s for the care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bette’s honor to Oconto County K-9 Unit, Suring American Legion Post 283 and the Women of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church.
