To the editor:
The Pulaski Community School District referendum failed on April 7. I want to thank the voters who saw through this poorly designed referendum and saw through what was going to transpire.
After attending many School Board meetings, a few factors come to mind: the longevity of some board members, behavior of some School Board members, and many bad decisions by the administration, so this defeat does not surprise me.
Your School Board is one of the major steps in your children’s education. When the school district fails, your children miss out on receiving the best education they truly deserve. Where are the parents at the School Board meetings?
If it was a sports event or wanting money for band uniforms, sports complex or football/soccer field, parents show up in droves, but when it comes to decisions on their children’s education, parents are absent.
With the recent commons bullying incident that was on video all over the Internet and on the news and radio, there appears to be a cover-up by the Pulaski School District. Their nonaction against the teacher/boys basketball coach shows they are completely out of touch with the whole situation. Teachers are supposed to be leaders, not encourage violence.
No reason given for the superintendent being put on paid personal leave sheds more light on a school district in total disarray.
Are residents and parents of the PCSD aware that we are on the way to a deficit in the school district budget this year? Was the referendum money to be used to pay off wasteful spending or for the iPads?
Trust continues to plague the Pulaski School District. Until the trust and accountability get addressed by the School Board and better decisions by administration, nothing will change, and referendums will continue to fail. It all starts with the local School Board and trickles down.
If parents are truly concerned about their children’s education, they need to start to get involved by attending the local School Board meetings or your school district will continue to fail.
