Shawano County Clerk Kara Skarlupka has been contemplating retirement “for a while” and chose July 11 as her last day on the job at the courthouse.
“After thoughtful consideration, I have decided to retire at this time,” she said. “I want to emphasize that this decision is in no way a reflection on Shawano County. It has been a privilege to work here for the past 12 years, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had.”
Skarlupka was elected in November to another four-year term that ends Dec. 31, 2028.
Her replacement will be appointed by the county board. A job posting for the role was placed on the county website June 5 and was not visible June 11. County Board Chairman Tom Kautza said June 10 the county had received a couple of applications.
The appointment by the board will be for the remainder of the four-year term.
While Skarlupka is leaving her job with the county, she will continue as town clerk in the Town of Washington.
“In regards to the Town of Washington, I do plan on staying with them until I fully retire,” she said. “This is not a new position for me. I have been with the town for over 10 years as their clerk.”
Skarlupka did not share what she will do once she retires.
“I would rather not share my retirement plans other than spending more time with my family,” she said.
