Shawano Community High School senior Daniel Boivin opened competition in the WIAA Division 1 Track and Field State Championships on Friday.
The Hawks’ senior qualified in both the 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault, while teammate and fellow senior Jake Klister qualified in the 800. Just one of those three Division 1 events were held on the first day of competition with Boivin (40.45 seconds) 18th during preliminaries for the 300 hurdles. He ran in the third flight and finished sixth.
The hurdles events, 800 run and pole vault are among the events to be decided in the tournament’s second day.
Competition resumes at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
