Badger Girls State delegate Samantha Lake attended the August meeting of the Wabeno Unit No. 44 American Legion Auxiliary, which sponsored her trip to the annual program.
Lake thanked the auxiliary for enabling her to attend Badger Girls State, which she called “the most amazing and inspirational learning experience.”
“Not only did I learn how local and state government work, I made friends from all over the state,” Lake said. “After talking far into the night with another girl from a much larger school, I came back determined to plant the seeds of improved student government at my high school in Wabeno. I envision a group that will make WHS an even better place for students to learn and grow into successful citizens.”
“Members were very impressed by Samantha’s presentation,” said Kathleen Marsh, Unit No. 44 BGS coordinator. “Her enthusiasm and determination to make the world a better place is admirable. We are so glad she was able to allow the experience of Badger Girls State to change her perspective and her life. Everyone found her message coordinated perfectly with what we as auxiliary members strive to do for our veterans.”
The auxiliary also sponsored Amanda Huettl, of Wabeno, and Crystal Drexler, of Elcho.
In a message to the auxiliary, Huettl wrote, “My time at Badger Girls State provided me with knowledge of the legislative system that I have never been exposed to and just how the government works overall. I met many great people and made many friends, especially those that were in my fictitious municipality, the town of Pine Grove. I ran for and was elected to the positions of election clerk, county board supervisor, vice county board chairman and supervisor of the Agriculture and Conservation Commission. I would like to thank the auxiliary for graciously sending me to Badger Girl State and for allowing me to experience something that I would not have been able to otherwise.”
