Arvilla Johnson, 97, Oconto Falls, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 12, 2014, at Sharpe Care. She was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Mountain to Albert and Jessie (Hurning) Bartz.
Arvilla grew up in the Mountain area, where she graduated high school with the Class of 1934.
On Sept. 4, 1936, she married Bob Johnson in Oconto Falls. Arvilla lived in Oconto Falls for most of her life. She was employed at Helstad Drug Store for almost 30 years.
She was a longtime member of the Oconto Falls United Methodist Church, where she was very active in numerous church activities. Arvilla also belonged to the Oconto Falls Women’s Club, the CMH Auxiliary, River Island Golf Club and, as an avid bridge player, participated in many bridge clubs.
Arvilla will be fondly remembered as a loving, caring and giving person who was always ready to give a hug.
Survivors are her three children, Bob “BJ” (Sharon) Johnson, Oconto Falls, Bill “Scrap” (Alberta “Bert”) Johnson, Redding, California, Bonnie (Vic) Peterson, Oconto Falls; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-stepgrandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Johnson, on Jan. 5, 1967; four brothers, Harvey, Chester, Delbert and Bill Bartz; and one sister, Sylvia Oshwaldt.
Visitation was held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Oconto Falls United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Jerry Cho officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
