Are you ready for some football?

A few local high school sports teams have already started competitive play, with the opening night for football coming Aug. 23. Five teams will take to the field for non-conference action, with all games beginning at 7 p.m. Scheduled games include Shawano hosting Denmark, Bonduel hosting Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Pulaski hosting Oconomowoc and Oconto Falls traveling to Oconto. Local teams playing 8-player football will first play Aug. 29, again with all games starting at 7 p.m. On the schedule are Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas at Niagara, Suring at Wausaukee and Menominee Nation at Wabeno/Laona. Playing at 7 p.m Aug. 30 will be Gillett playing host to Three Lakes/Phelps and Marion/Tigerton hosting Alma Center Lincoln at Marion. Bowler/Gresham, originally scheduled to play in the 8-player Mideast Conference, has no schedule posted for the season.
