Spooner 4, Shawano 1
Shawano was knocked off by the Spooner Rails 5-1 on Feb. 3.
A scoreless first period gave way to three goals by Spooner in the second period.
The Hawks’ only goal came at 7:46 in the third period when Tyson Lyons scored. Spooner added its fourth and final goal at 12:24.
Shawano/Bonduel made 15 shots on goal, while the Rails had 24. Lyons notched 20 saves.
Penalties for Shawano totaled three for six minutes. Spooner was called six times for 12 minutes.
Escanaba 8, Shawano 0
Shawano had a long drive home Feb. 2 after losing 8-0 to Escanaba, Michigan.
Escanaba scored five times in the first period and three times in the second for the shutout. The host team was not called for a single penalty, while Shawano was called twice for four minutes.
Escanaba notched 33 shots on goal, as Kaiden Thornborrow had 25 saves. Shawano players managed only three shots on goal.
Antigo 3, Spooner 1
Owen Dickman scored once with two assists and Eli Kassler had a goal and an assist as Antigo topped Spooner 3-1 on Feb. 2.
Scoring opened in the first period when Dickman scored with a Kassler assist at 13:57. Exactly one minute later, Liam Burt scored with assists from Dickman and Ian Brittenham.
Kassler scored with a Dickman assist at 3:57 in the second period to put the Red Robins up 3-0. Spooner scored at 7:06 in the second period, and there was no scoring in the third period.
Spooner had 43 shots on goal, with only one finding the back of the net. Antigo had 19 shots. Goalie Nolan Bunnell had 42 saves for Antigo.
As for penalties, Antigo was called for seven infractions and served 14 minutes. The Rails were called on five penalties and served 10 minutes.
Rhinelander 10, Shawano 4
Rhinelander’s 39 shots on goal included 10 goals as the Hodags controlled the game from the beginning, defeating Shawano/Bonduel 10-4 on Feb. 1.
The Hodags led 3-0 in the first period before Karson Stoss first put Shawano on the board at 14:50.
The two teams traded the first four goals in the second period, but then Rhinelander added four unanswered goals to take a 9-3 lead. Second-period goals for Shawano came from Michael Dillenberg at 5:18 with assists from Cam Schroeder and Stoss, and then from Bryce Lammers at 6:59 with a Hunter Jones assist.
Blake Knope scored at 1:31 in the third period with a Stoss assist. Rhinelander hit the back of the goal once more at 14:50 to end the scoring.
Shawano had 21 shots on goal.
Tyson Lyons had 15 saves on 20 shots on goal, while Kaiden Thornborrow had 14 saves on against 19 shots.
The Hawks were penalized six times for 12 minutes. The Hodags were penalized eight times for 16 minutes.
After the non-conference loss, Shawano’s record stands at 7-11 overall. The Hawks are 3-1 in the Independents Conference.
Shawano 5, Pacelli 1
Shawano’s hockey players didn’t have as many shots on goal as Stevens Point Pacelli, but the ones they did they made count.
The Cardinals led the Hawks 22-16 on shots on goal, but the scoreboard showed Shawano on top with a 5-1 final score on Jan. 30.
Karson Stoss started out the Hawks’ scoring with a goal at 15:52 in the first period. With an assist from Blake Knope, the Hawks led 1-0 at the end of the period.
Knope, who had a hat trick on the night, scored his first goal at 1:45 in the second period with an assist from Wyatt Schroeder. Shawano took a 3-0 lead thanks to a Cam Schroeder goal with an assist from Wyatt Schroeder.
Knope’s second goal came at 2:44 in the third period with Stoss assisting. Pacelli scored their only goal at 8:07, with Knope getting his third at 15:06 with another Wyatt Schroeder assist.
Both teams were penalized seven times for 14 minutes.
Goalie Kaiden Thornborrow recorded 21 saves.
Mosinee 8, Antigo 1
Owen Dickman scored Antigo’s only goal in its 6-1 loss to Mosinee on Jan. 30.
The Indians scored twice in the first period, three times in the second and had two goals in the third period before Dickman scored at 8:23 with an assist by Liam Burt. Mosinee scored once after that.
The Red Robins were called for two penalties for four minutes, while the Indians were called on three infractions for six minutes.
Antigo only managed 11 shots on goals compared to Mosinee’s 63. Nolan Bunnell had 55 saves for the Red Robins.
