2 sites selected for drug drop-off

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Department and the Oconto Police Department will participate in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Sept. 27. The Oconto County Sheriff’s Department collection site will be located at Oconto County’s Satellite Office, 17340 State Highway 32, Lakewood. The Oconto Police Department collection site will be located at City Hall, 1210 Main St., Oconto. Collection hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members may drop off their medications free and anonymously. Individuals can prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted medications. Participants may dispose of solid medications by removing the medication from their containers and disposing them directly into a disposal box. Blister packages are acceptable without the medications being removed. Liquids will be accepted; however, the liquids must be in their original packaging. Inhalers and needles/sharps will not be accepted. The improper disposal of medications, such as flushing them down a toilet or throwing them in the trash, poses public safety, health and environmental hazards.
