The Bay Area Ice Bears won their first WIAA playoff game, a 6-0 semifinal shutout of Lakeshore Lightning.
The Ice Bears tallied 14 shots on goal in the first period, and the Lightning had seven, but neither team found the back of the net.
Scoring began in the second period when the Ice Bears connected on three of their 13 shots on goal.
Abby Monmaerts scored at 1:05 with a Rachael Beeck assist. Addison Dahl followed at 6:03 with assistance from Julianne Bradford and Tiana Stindt. The Ice Bears’ third goal of the period was recorded at 8:15 when Ava McDonald scored with assists from Aisling Buchan and Lily Lyons.
Lakeshore only mustered three shots on goal in the period. The same was true for their third-period output.
Bay Area scored on three of six shots on goal in the third period.
Lyons scored at 3:47 with help from McDonald and Mya Sheppard. Then, Emily Bill scored twice, first at 10:00 and again at 11:50. Faye Brunke assisted on Bill’s first goal, while she and Bradford assisted on the second goal.
In the end, Bay Area had 33 shots on goal. Lakeshore had 13, with Reese Spiering getting 13 saves.
The game was mostly free of penalties, with each team only called for two infractions apiece for four minutes.
Bay Area advances to the sectional finals at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at home against the Fond du Lac Warbirds. Fond du Lac moved to the finals after beating the Fox Cities Stars 5-1 on Feb. 25.
The Warbirds are made up of girls from St. Mary’s Springs, Oshkosh, Omro, Kewaskum, Campbellsport, Valders, Waupun, Plymouth, Kohler and Sheboygan.
