Ice Bears move on to state tournament

Feb. 28 Bay Area 3, Fond du Lac Warbirds 1 The Ice Bears punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 3-1 win over the Fond du Lac Warbirds. A scoreless first period gave way to Bay Area’s three goals in the second period. Rachael Beeck scored at 1:28 with an Addison Gady assist. Faye Brunke scored at 2:34 with assists from Tiana Stindt and Emily Bill. Then, at 11:20, Bill scored with Addison Dahl and Julianne Bradford assisting. The Warbirds scored their goal in the third period. The Ice Bears had 28 shots on goal. The Warbirds only managed six, with Reese Spiering getting five saves. The Warbirds had more penalties than shots on goal, getting called for seven infractions for 25 minutes, including five minutes for checking from behind (major) and 10 minutes for checking from behind (misconduct), both on the same player. Bay Area, seeded No.1, was scheduled to play No. 4 seed Sun Prairie West Co-op in a semifinal gameMarch 6. D.C. Everest, No. 2 seed, was set to play No. 3 seed Eau Claire North Co-op. The winners of the semifinal games will play for the state championship at 3 p.m. March 8 in Middleton.
