Ice Bears collect two more hockey wins

Jan. 25 Bay Area 3 ECA 1 Faye Brunke scored twice in the first period and Hannah Von Haden added a third in the second period as Bay Area topped the ECA (Eau Claire Area) Stars 3-1. Both of Brunke’s goals were solo shots. Von Haden had assists from Tiana Stindt and Abby Mommaerts. ECA scored its only goal at 1:35 in the third. Bay Area had 32 shots on goals, forcing Stars goalie Amy Thul into 29 saves. ECA had 20 shots on goal, and Reese Spiering had 19 saves. The Ice Bears had four penalties for eight minutes, and the Stars had there penalties for six minutes. The Ice Bears return home for the final three games of the regular season. The Arrowhead Warhawks will visit for a 6 p.m. game Jan. 31. Jan. 24 Bay Area 4, Chippewa Falls/Menomonie 1 The two girls hockey teams combined for more than two dozen shots on goal in the first two periods, but none of them found the back of the net, as all the scoring was done in the third period in Bay Area’s 4-1 win. Hannah Von Haden broke the scoreless tie at 1:24 in the third period with an assist from Abby Mommaerts. Julianne Bradford then scored twice, once at 1:52 with help from Faye Brunke and again at 7:23 with help from Emily Bill. The Sabers scored at 11:06 to make it 3-1 but Brunke scored at 14:10 with a Bradford assist to end scoring. Chippewa Falls was penalized twice for four minutes. Bay Area was called for six infractions for 20 minutes, including a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct and a 10-minute unsportsmanlike conduct against Bradford at 15:57 in the third period. Bay Area’s Reese Spiering collected 12 saves against 13 shots on goal, while Chippewa Falls’ Aubrie Dowd had 34 saves against 38 shots.
