Hwy. 141 is topic of public meeting

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will hold two public hearings regarding the designation of U.S. 141 as an expressway from County Road E in Oconto County 23 miles north to state Highway 64 in Marinette County. The hearings will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Lena High School, 304 E. Main St., Lena, and Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Coleman High School, 343 Business 141 N., Coleman. Both sessions will run from 5-7 p.m. An expressway designation will assist WisDOT in controlling future access along the section of U.S. 141. According to a news release from the WisDOT, without controlling direct access, the safety and operating capacity of the highway will deteriorate. The designation helps regulate traffic patterns, thereby decreasing crash potential, preserving traffic-carrying capabilities, and protecting the existing public investment in the roadway, the release states. Interested persons are encouraged to attend either hearing to review displays and other materials, ask questions and provide oral or written testimony about the expressway designations. Individuals can provide written testimony before Nov. 1 by e-mailing natasha.gwidt@dot.wi.gov, faxing 920-492-5711 or mailing comments to project manager Natasha Gwidt, 944 Vanderperren Way, Green Bay, WI 54304.
