The Shawano School District and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Bay and Lakes Region have announced the award of a 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant to support and establish after-school programming at Hillcrest Primary School.
This prestigious grant, aimed at enriching the educational experience of students, will significantly enhance the opportunities and resources available to Hillcrest. The grant is for $80,000 per year for the next five years.
The grant, provided by the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to establish or expand community learning centers that provide students with academic enrichment opportunities along with activities designed to complement their regular academic program. The Boys and Girls Club’s afterschool program at Hillcrest will now offer even more comprehensive support in areas such as homework assistance, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, arts and culture, health and wellness, and much more.
“This grant is a game-changer for our afterschool program at Hillcrest Primary School,” said Emily Klemme, senior director of school-based Operations at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Bay and Lakes Region. “We are committed to providing a safe, enriching, and supportive environment for all students, and the 21st CCLC grant will allow us to expand our offerings and reach even more children in the Shawano community.”
The enhanced afterschool program will include:
• Academic support — Tutoring and homework help to ensure students keep up with their schoolwork and achieve academic success.
• STEM education — Hands-on learning activities that inspire curiosity and build critical thinking skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
• Arts and culture — Opportunities for students to explore their creativity through visual arts, music, dance, and drama.
• Health and wellness — Programs that promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and social-emotional development.
• Parental engagement — Workshops and resources to help parents support their children’s education and development.
