The intersection of Highland Drive and state Highway 22 is set to reopen as promised on Wednesday, according to information provided by Duke Peters, project manager for Peters Concrete Company, the primary contractor for the Highway 22 reconstruction project in Oconto Falls.
The intersection by United True Value has been closed since April 30 as part of the reconstruction of 1.6 miles of Highway 22 from East Highland Drive to West Highland Drive.
Once the intersection reopens, the County Road I detour will end, and Highland Drive will reopen to through traffic.
Work will continue on Chestnut Avenue, with grading scheduled to start Wednesday or Thursday. As part of the grading process, a gravel base will be laid, making the street “more wide open,” Peters said, although it will remain closed to through traffic.
Motorists are encouraged to use the nearest side streets to reach their destinations.
“The least amount of time spent on the road is the best in every case,” Peters said.
Construction will continue moving to the south on Chestnut Avenue, where crews will take off the existing pavement, replace the sewer, then grade the street. The repaving of the first section of Chestnut Avenue, in what Peters called “a perfect world,” would be done June 8, but he said it was unlikely paving could be done that soon.
