Hawks advance to sectional
Shawano advanced to the WIAA Division 1 sectional at Bay Port with a fourth-place finish Wednesday in the New London regional at Shamrock Heights Golf Course.
The Hawks finished with a team score of 347. New London (307) won the event with Appleton East (333) in second and Appleton West (347) in third. The top four teams advanced.
Braden Mueller, who this week was named the Bay Conference’s Player of the Year, led the Hawks with an 80 to finish in a tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard with New London’s Matt Fletcher. Also for Shawano, Cole Huntington had an 86, Braxten Surber 89 and Josh Mueller 92.
The sectional will be played Tuesday at Brown County Golf Course.
SOFTBALL
Bonduel 8
Menominee Indian 1
Jen Dowden pitched a complete-game win for Bonduel, striking out six and allowing four hits with two walks in the WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal.
Dowden had a shutout until the sixth inning, when the Eagles’ Kelsey Corn scored their lone run on a Joan Waukau RBI hit.
The Bears, the regional’s No. 3 seed, took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when Kailee Pedersen scored the first of her two runs. She added her second run in the third inning, giving Bonduel a 2-0 lead.
Bonduel scored three more runs over the following two innings, taking a 5-0 lead before No. 2 Menominee Indian got on the board. The Bears added three insurance runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of two Eagles’ fielding errors.
Weier and Becca Carpenter each had two hits and two runs scored for Bonduel (8-14, 5-9 Central Wisconsin Conference-8). Bonduel next plays the winner of Friday’s game between top-seed Oconto and No. 4 Crivitz.
Corn took the loss for Menominee Indian, allowing 14 hits and two walks with two strikeouts. She also led the Eagles’ (11-4, 10-2 CWC-10) offense with two hits.
Tigerton 3

Megan Anheuser had two RBIs and Sarah Gauthier had three hits for No. 2 seed Tigerton in its WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal home win Thursday.
With a 2-2 tie, the game went into extra innings and the Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the 10th for the win.
Ashley Knaup had two hits and a run scored for Tigerton (10-8, 8-5 Central Wisconsin Conference-10). Abby Knaup had two hits, and Sara Shumaker added a run scored.
Summer Kopitzke pitched a complete game. She struck out six and walked five.
Taylor Jankowski took the loss for No. 3 seed Newman Catholic (7-9, 6-6 Marawood South), allowing eight hits and striking out 12.
Tigerton hosts No. 5 Manawa, which upset top-seed Rosholt, 4-3, in the regional final at 4 p.m. Friday.

Summer Kopitzke pitched a no-hitter and Abby Knaup had four RBIs for Tigerton in its WIAA Division 3 regional win at home Wednesday over Marion.
Kopitzke struck out seven and allowed no hits for the Tigers (9-8, 8-5 Central Wisconsin Conference-10), who advanced to play Newman Catholic on Thursday in Tigerton.
Kailee Brown took the loss for Marion (0-14, 0-13 CWC-10) allowing seven earned runs and 11 walks.
BASEBALL

A grand slam from Hunter VanDerLinden helped Bonduel close its regular season with a home win Thursday.
Connor Rosin got the win, pitching three innings and allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
Jordan Richter had three hits for Bonduel (20-1, 5-9 Central Wisconsin Conference-8). Rosin finished with two hits, including a double. VanDerLinden had four RBIs.
Russell Smith took the loss, pitching four innings and allowing seven hits with three strikeouts, for Wausaukee (5-10, 3-5 Marinette & Oconto Conference).

Patrick Bailey had three hits for Tigerton in its road loss Thursday.
Hayden Harris, Alec Berg, Jasper Block and Robert Graham had hits for Tigerton (6-12, 6-12 Central Wisconsin Conference-10).
Port Edwards improved to 3-16 overall and 2-16 in the CWC-10.
