Etta Mae Steinke, 66, of Tigerton, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg.
Etta Mae Ida Steinke was born on Dec. 2, 1947, in the town of Germania, Shawano County, to Harvey and DeVera (Kriesel) Steinke. After graduating from Tigerton High School in 1965 she went on to complete beauty school. Etta Mae was employed as a beautician at Joan’s Beauty Salon, Wittenberg, for 14 years. Her parents owned and operated Steinke’s Bar in the town of Germania, where she helped out with cleaning. Etta Mae also worked several other jobs over her career, including Wausau Insurance for some time, then in the office at Tigerton Lumber Company, as a receptionist with the Tigerton Clinic, and as a machine operator at Federal Mogul in Wausau for close to 15 years.
Etta Mae was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was active as a Saturday School teacher, served as secretary on the church council and volunteered as a money counter. She cherished all of her cats and dogs throughout the years, liked working on different craft projects, and always enjoyed listening to country western music and polka dancing. Etta Mae was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and she would also decorate her home for every season of the year. She loved the outdoors, spending time outside whenever possible, even helping her brother make firewood.
Survivors include one brother, Marlin (Kathy) Steinke, of Tigerton; a niece, Jodi Steinke, of Wittenberg; and a nephew, Todd (Sandy) Steinke, of Shawano. There are three great-nieces, Callie (Brandon) Hirsch, Courtney Rosenow and Corine (Ray) Sonnenberg. There is a great-great-niece, Abby, and a great-great-nephew, Alex. She is further survived by an aunt, Elaine Kurth, of Wausau, many other relatives and friends.
Etta Mae was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. The Rev. Matthew Uttenreither will officiate, and inurnment will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Friends may call on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
