Shawano Area Writers has announced that Doug Erdman will serve as master of ceremonies and Kim Suhr will deliver the keynote address for the 2025 Putz Memorial Student Writing Contest.
Erdman has been with Results Broadcasting in Shawano for 36 years and became a legend when he referred to himself as one in his own mind. Now, through the efforts of many people, Erdman is considered a legend by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. At WTCH, Erdman gets up at 4 a.m. to host the morning show where he loves to entertain his audience with wit, wisdom and country music.
Suhr is the author of story collections “Nothing to Lose” and “Close Call.” Other Suhr stories have appeared in various journals and won contests. She also teaches writing classes.
Suhr is the director of Red Oak Writing which hosts Creative Writing Camp for aspiring young writers entering grades 6-12 every summer. Kim holds a master of fine arts degree from the Solstice program. She lives and writes in southeastern Wisconsin.
The student writing contest is free to enter with no limit to number of entries. Students in grades 1-12 who live or go to school in Shawano or Menominee counties can compete. The deadline is April 5. For information, go to www.shawanoareawriters.org or call John Mutter Jr. at 715-524-4520.
