A Denmark man was arrested Sunday, Feb. 15, after traveling to Oconto Falls with the intention of meeting 12- and 15-year-old girls for sex. Scott Arveson, 45, was taken into custody by the Oconto Falls Police Department and Oconto County Sheriff’s Department.
The arrest was part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) work of Oconto Falls Police Officer Jamie Kuhn, who in 2014 completed a weeklong training session to learn about cyber crime. She does a majority of the ICAC investigations and follow-ups to cyber tips during her regular duty hours and also devotes extra time to training.
Oconto Falls Police Chief Brad Olson said Kuhn’s work is important for the safety of the children in the area, especially because they have ready access to the Internet and social media.
Arveson originally made contact with someone he believed to be a minor female through an ad on Craigslist.
“What’s concerning to me and should be of concern to the public is the minimal amount of time Officer Kuhn has put into efforts to find and arrest these sexual predators and the success that she has already had,” he said.
Arveson is being held in Oconto County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond on charges of using of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, child enticement and causing a child 12-18 to view sexual activity.
He is due back in court March 12.
