The Shawano County Deer Advisory Council approved both an antlerless Holiday Hunt and extended the archery season until Jan. 31 during its annual meeting April 29 at Shawano Community Middle School.
Both decisions came on a 3-2 vote.
The council also agreed to increase the total antlerless deer quota from 9,000 in 2024 to 10,000 this year, although the number is largely symbolic because the actual antlerless harvest was just 4,590 animals.
Hunters in Shawano County will receive two antlerless deer permits per gun and archery buck permit.
The council also set the bonus antlerless permits at 4,900 for private land and 1,600 for public land.
