One coach is in and one coach is out at Gillett Secondary School.
The Gillett School Board last week announced the resignation of softball coach Jill Weyers due to family obligations and elevated Jeff Cross to varsity boys basketball coach.
Weyers said she stepped down because she is expecting her second child midseason.
“I am sad, but am happy that we are having our second child,” Weyers said.
Weyers produced a 7-14 record in her two seasons as coach after being promoted from assistant coach. In her first season, the Tigers posted a 2-7 record. They improved to 5-7 last season.
Gillett athletic director Mike Kaczmarek said there is no timetable for finding Weyers’ replacement.
The school opted to promote from within to fill the void vacated by former boys basketball coach William Greenwood II, who resigned in June after one year with the Gillett School District to pursue a career in the private sector. He was 7-17 in his only season with the Tigers. Cross served as the school’s junior varsity coach.
