Emergency management and public health officials from Shawano and Menominee counties are planning two community outreach events as part of September’s Emergency Preparedness Month.
Officials will be at Hanke’s Sentry Foods, 110 S. Mission St., in Wittenberg from 1o:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
On Sept. 21, they will be at Qualheim’s True Value, 1345 E. Green Bay St., in Shawano from 1-3 p.m.
Shawano County Emergency Management and Shawano-Menominee Public Health will be at the outreach events, handing out preparedness information and discussing what citizens can do to get prepared.
“It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and learn what being prepared means,” said Megan Suehring, community health educator for Shawano-Menominee Public Health.
The theme of this year’s National Preparedness Month is turning awareness into action.
“Each week during September, preparedness tips will be posted on Facebook.com/ReadyShawanoCounty and I encourage citizens to engage with us as they continue their preparedness efforts during National Preparedness Month,” said Natalie Easterday, Shawano County Emergency Management director.
Officials are encouraging citizens to take four important steps to prepare for emergencies.
• Be informed about what could happen and identify sources of information that you may need before, during, and after an emergency.
• Make a plan for what to do during an emergency.
• Build an emergency supply kit.
• Get involved by encouraging other to get prepared.
