Colleen Lynn “Jem-E-Wan Jun De-Qua” Smith, clan mother of the Bear Clan, Ottawa Nation, 64, of Cecil, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, in Appleton.
Born on Aug. 28, 1949, in Milwaukee, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Lillian R (Hefele) Briggs. On Feb. 26, 1972, she was united in marriage to Jody W. Smith in Eland. While Jody was in the service, the couple traveled all over the world. Colleen always enjoyed helping and serving others. Her kind heart will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Colleen is survived by her husband, Jody; three children, Joseph T. Smith, of Cecil, Merina and Michael Upson, of Marion, Connie L. Brenneman, of Bowler; eight grandchildren, Shane, Tabitha, Mathew-Thomas, Joseph, Jeromy, Savannah, Kyah, Faith; and a brother, Wayne and Terry Briggs, of Arizona.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Traditional services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Family and friends may call at the funeral home in Shawano on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service.
