The 2015 Winter Whirl begins Thursday in Clintonville and continues through Sunday, with most of the activities scheduled for Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, there will be a community pie and ice cream social at the Clintonville Community Center, 30 S. Main St.
For those craving a warmer offering, the 26th Tummy Warmer Cook-off will open to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Clintonville Recreation Center, 55 12th St. Mild chili, hot chili, chicken soup and a miscellaneous category will be featured.
Contestants must prepare at least five quarts of soup. Each soup category will be tested for appearance, aroma, creativity/uniqueness, texture, taste, flavor and after-taste. First-, second- and third-place trophies will be awarded in each category. There will also be a Peoples Choice award, which will be decided by those in attendance. Grayling Pingel will provide live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Recreation Center.
The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Recreation Center. It is a 1990 classic. Chairs will be available, but guests also can bring a foldable lawn chair. Concessions will be available. The admission fee is $2.50 per person.
From 1-3 p.m. Sunday, a children’s carnival will be held at St. Rose/St. Mary School, 140 Auto St.
The Friends of the Library will conduct a used book sale from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Clintonville Public Library, 75 Hemlock St.
The ice skating rink behind Subway will be open from 6-9 p.m. Friday, and hot chocolate will be available at the warming house.
