The seventh annual Christmas cantata at St. John’s Lutheran Church will be performed at three evening concerts and one Sunday morning performance. Performances are 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 20 and 27 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28. All evening performances will be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
This year’s cantata is “The Night Before Christmas,” created by Joel Lindsey, Twila LaBar and J. Daniel Smith, arranged and orchestrated by J. Daniel Smith. It features about 45 minutes of new and old holiday melodies in a Christmas musical setting, featuring songs like “Beautiful Surprise,” “His Name Is Jesus” with “O Come, Let Us Adore Him,” and “Like Shepherds and Wise Men Do” with “Angels, From the Realms of Glory.”
Singers from many local congregations have been rehearsing for weeks preparing for this year’s performances.
Performing in “The Night Before Christmas” are Gary Anderson, Kayla Blumreich, Brenda Danielson, Karen Eiseth, Jason Fenendael, Jennifer Fenendael, Billy Jean FullerGraham, Laura Kaiser, Samara Kaiser, Darlene Kapelke, Patti Konkle, Angel LaCrosse, Bobbie Olshesky, Amanda Ondik, Katie Jo Pockat, Emily Raatz, Nancy Stark, Claudette Tipton, Ann Wasmund and Cathy Wocking.
Wayne Strei is the narrator, and Rachel Block directs the production.
There is no admission charge, but a free-will offering will be accepted. St. John’s Lutheran Church, 101 W. Main St., Gillett, is handicapped accessible.
