After only having six swimmers on varsity last year, the Wittenberg-Birnamwood swim team is back bigger and better for 2024.
The Chargers have a full varsity team as well as a pair of swimmers for JV events.
At the Bay Conference Relays on Aug. 29 in Sturgeon Bay, Wittenberg-Birnamwood placed second with 120 points, with Door County United in first with 127.
The team earned four first-place finishes as well as two each for second and third.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Brooklyn Beran, Reese Dickman, Kelsie Davis and Faith Resch finished with a time of 1:58:04. Faith Resch, Claire Timm, Andrea Powell and Ava Hegewald completed the 200-yard freestyle 4x50 relay in 1:56.87. In the 3x100-yard breaststroke relay, it was Olivia Bessette, Rylee Crick and Reese Dickman touching in 3:50.47. Resch, Bessette, Dickman and Davis had a time of 3:56.54 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Chloe Hanson, Bessette, Elizabeth Behnke and Timm placed second in the 100-yard freestyle relay 4x25 with 59.33, and Powell, Davis and Crick earned second in the 200-yard butterfly 50-100-50 relay in 2:07.51.
Hegewald, Powell, Crick and Beran placed third in the 400-yard medley 4x100 intermediate medley in 4:59.8, and Beran, Behnke, Hanson and Ava Filtz placed third with a time of 9:10.77 in the 750-yard freestyle relay 400-200-100-50.
Filtz, Hegewald, Hanson and Addie Schmid were fourth in the 200-yard medley reverse order in 2:38.14.
Sixth place in the 3x100 backstroke was captured by Timm, Schmid and Behnke in 4:18.16.
