Carl “Charlie” Hansen, 75, Oconto Falls, died Saturday morning, Nov. 15, 2014, at home surrounded by his family following a short illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1939, in Shawano County to Carl and Mary (Egly) Hansen Sr.
Carl attended Oconto Falls Public Schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1957. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
On May 19, 1962, he married Geraldine Bennett in Green Valley. Carl lived in the town of Morgan for most of his married life and was employed at Hurkman Mechanical for 20 years and retired from Tweet/Garot in 2001.
Carl was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett and once served on the council of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 18 and had been active in the Oconto Falls Sportsman’s Club, which he once served as president.
Charlie will be fondly remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially deer hunting, trapshooting and making firewood.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Gerri Hansen, Oconto Falls; their four children, Scott Hansen, Oconto Falls, Brian Hansen, Green Bay, Lynn (Scott) Konitzer and Chad “Paulie” Hansen, all of Gillett; four brothers, Reid (Julie) Hansen, Oconto Falls, Paul (Joan) Hansen, De Pere, Michael (Vicki) Hansen, Marinette, and Curtis (Sue) Hansen, Green Bay; his mother-in-law, Lily Bennett, Bonduel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phillip (Sharon) Bennett, Sun Prairie, and John (Rose) Bennett, Green Valley; two aunts, Alice Hansen, Gillett, and Anita Hansen, Chase; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Chester “Chet” Wirtz.
Visitation was held at St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, until the time of service. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Pastor Harvey Jeffers officiating. Cremation followed, with burial of the urn in the Town of Morgan Cemetery.
