Busy summer ahead at Mielke Arts Center

June kicks off the summer season for everyone, and for the Mielke Arts Center, as rehearsals for “Clue: The Musical” have begun. Brandon Byng, director, is excited to get this production rolling. If you attended “Nunsense,” the musical brought to Clintonville by the Lions Club, you saw Brandon as Mother Superior, as well as director of the show. Not one to stand still for too long, this creative guy found time to insert this funny show into his rehearsal schedule for “Clue.” He is one busy man! July will be here before you know it, and Brandon will have his cast ready to open “Clue” on July 9. The show runs for two weekends, Thursday through Sunday. Tickets may be reserved by calling 715-526-2525. Go to our website, www.shawanoarts.com, to order online and find out more about the show. The Shawano and Clintonville chambers are the local ticket outlets; adults $12 and youth $7. Remember, if you are a member of the Shawano County Arts Council, you will receive $1 off your ticket by showing your card at the box office. Cheryl Folkerts will again be chairperson of the annual Arts and Crafts Fair on Sunday, July 26, as she has been for many years. She always needs volunteers to man the office/concession stand and also to cruise the park and tend to the vendors. Speaking of vendors, if you have original crafts and want to be a part of the fair, call Cheryl at 715-745-6222. I usually round up the gate keepers for the fair, and can use help. Let me know if you have some time to give as a gatekeeper for a two-hour shift on fair day. You can reach me at 715-823-6237. Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. When July ends, we jump right into August with the Folk Music Festival, which runs for three days on Aug. 7, 8 and 9. Concerts, crafts, workshops and music all over the Mielke Park. All original folk music, performed by professionals. Check out shawanoarts.com and click on the music festival link for all the details. If you want to talk to the person in charge, call Nicole Henquinet at 920-559-0418. The Mielke Children’s Theater Workshop has been accepting registrations, and we are up to 22 children. The maximum number we can accept is 35. If your child is interested, better get your registration form in now. Download the form on www.shawanoarts.com. or call me. The workshop is Monday through Saturday, Aug. 10-15. I’m looking forward to my Kugler Kuzzin’ Gabfest next Saturday. Once a year, we female cousins get together for potluck, talking and laughing. If you know me at all, you know I love to talk. Well, my cousins have the gift of gab, too, and sometimes we have to interrupt each other in order to have our say! As we grow older, this meeting has become more important than ever. Perhaps you have some cousins you’d like to re-connect with. Do it!
