A big day from Barret Bohm helped Bonduel beat Peshtigo 10-2 Thursday in the American Legion Class A Region 3 tournament at Jack Reinke Field in Bonduel.
Bonduel lost its tournament opener 7-5 to Oconto on Wednesday.
“It’s a better feeling than last night,” Bonduel coach Jason Luepke said. “We played a lot better baseball. Got our heads back into it.”
Bohm’s two-run home run in the third put Bonduel up 4-0 against Peshtigo after Hunter Vanderlinden and Brandon Hagel both knocked in runs to start the scoring.
Bonduel wasn’t done. Peshtigo pitcher Marcus Sharkey let the next three batters on base, hitting two and allowing a base hit by Kody Reinke. Trevor Homan then hit a fly ball deep to center field for a two-run double, and Rosin hit a sacrifice fly to allow Lloyd Allen to score.
“That was a big inning,” Luepke said. “Barret Bohm hit the ball well.”
Reinke, who finished three for three with three RBIs, added two more runs in a rainy fourth inning on a double to right field. He also hit an RBI single in the sixth to round out the scoring for Bonduel.
Peshtigo knocked in runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Bohm finished three for four with a home run, two doubles and two RBIs.
Hagel pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking three and struck out seven.
Sharkey lasted 2 1/3 innings before giving way to Trevor Bero, who pitched 3 2/3 innings. They combined to allow 10 runs on 10 hits, with three walks and four strikeouts.
With its second loss, Peshtigo was eliminated from the tournament. Bonduel will play at 3 p.m. Friday in Clintonville against either Clintonville or Marion/Tigerton, who played the late game Thursday in Clintonville. That game was not completed by the Leader’s press time.
“The challenges are there for us,” Luepke said. “We have plenty of pitching left. … We just need to keep hitting the ball and scoring runs. That’s something we’ve struggled with all year, is being consistent and the hitting.”
