August Frank Janicek, 89, of Clintonville, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at a local nursing home.
Born on Nov. 5, 1923, in Czechoslovakia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Frances (Slamka) Janicek. At the age of 15, August and his family moved to the Milwaukee area. In 1942 he enlisted with the United States Army Air Corps and served his country for four years. On Aug. 3, 1946, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Kolosky in Milwaukee. The couple enjoyed traveling as a family when the children were younger. August and Anna especially enjoyed the trip they took to Europe to visit relatives. August was a hardworking man. He owned a grocery store, a bar, a real estate office and an insurance office throughout his life. He also worked as a tool and die maker for the Ladish Company in Cudahy for many years until retiring. After retiring, August and Anna moved to Shawano. August was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano as well as a member of the Shawano VFW, American Legion, AmVets and Knights of Columbus. He was a kind, caring, fun-loving, easygoing man who will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
August is survived by his son, Gregory (Sally) Janicek, of Wausau; his daughter, Elaine (Ed) Spredemann, of Belle Plaine; five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
August was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, on March 15, 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
