Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. will hold auditions Aug. 27-28 for its winter musical “Seussical the Musical” to be presented Dec. 5-8 and Dec. 12-15.
The musical takes audiences into the world of Dr. Seuss, where patrons revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides audience members into The Jungle of Nool where they see Horton, the kind-hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville. He meets JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many thinks.
“Seussical” weaves a story of friendship, loyalty and love.
This musical, directed by Debra Jolly, calls for a cast of 20 actors, ages 8 and older. No stage experience is necessary.
Individuals will have two opportunities to audition: 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, at the Nancy Byng Community Theater, 5852 Maple St., Abrams. Individuals who audition should be prepared to sing one minute of a song, preferably from a musical. They should sing along to a music track on their phone, instead of singing a cappella.
The auditions will also include a reading from the script and a group choreography number, so comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended. Dance experience is a plus.
To save time and skip the line, individuals are encouraged to complete the audition paperwork online prior to auditions. A link can be found under the Events/Auditions tab at www.abramstheater.com. If an in-person audition isn’t feasible, contact ASPI regarding an alternate time or a video audition.
“Seussical” rehearsals start the week of Labor Day and mainly will be held on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.
Anyone interested in helping out behind the scenes can contact ASPI at 920-826-5852 or theater.aspi@gmail.com to volunteer.
