Gov. Scott Walker has again designated September and October as United Way Months in Wisconsin, in recognition of the launch of United Way annual campaigns throughout the state.
The Shawano County campaign was launched with the annual glow-golf event Aug. 9. Besides a fun night of golf, 17 local agencies received the final installment of the $48,000 allocated to community groups this year.
As part of the kick-off, donation cards were sold at Charlie’s County Market, Perkins, The Shack, Shawano Lake Golf Course and C-Us-4 Wireless.
Shawano Municipal Utility customers will have the opportunity to contribute through yellow envelopes included in their utility bills this month. This annual donation opportunity is for the 2014-2015 campaign year. All funds raised are used to support local agencies.
An easy way to contribute to United Way is through payroll deduction. By donating a few dollars each pay check, you can help others in need a little bit at a time. If you don’t work in Shawano County, the pledge cards allow you to designate your pledge to any United Way. If your company works with the United Way of another county, you can request your donation go to Shawano County.
One in four Shawano County residents receive services from a United Way partner agency.
Shawano County United Way is one of 43 United Ways across Wisconsin that in 2013, collectively, raised over $122 million.
The organizations receiving United Way funds from last year’s campaign, which raised $48,000 of its $75,000 goal, were Birnamwood Community Cupboard, SAFPARC, American Red Cross, Safe Haven, Junior Achievement, nIc Foundation, Wolf River School to Work, Boy Scouts, Navarino Nature Center, Kids Klub, Shawano Literacy Council, Alzheimer’s Association, Red River Riders, Special Olympics, NEW Curative Workshop, Lutheran Counseling and Family Services, and Shawano Food Center.
