Agencies awarded law enforcement grants

Area law enforcement agencies are the recipients of $135,000 in grants for extra traffic enforcement in their quest to deter seat belt, speeding and operating while intoxicated violations. Three highway safety grants were awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The money will be used to pay deputies and officers, including overtime pay as necessary, to provide additional traffic enforcement for OWI, speed and seat belt special enforcement operations. Shawano County, Menominee County and the city of Shawano were jointly awarded a total of $50,000 for seat belt enforcement, $35,000 for OWI enforcement and $50,000 for speed enforcement to be used from Jan. 1 through Sept. 30, 2025. Shawano County’s share of these funds totals $30,000 for seat belt, $30,000 for speed enforcement and $25,000 for OWI special enforcement operations. No matching dollars are required from any of the law enforcement agencies. kpasson@newmedia-wi.com
